Changes for the Brandow Family

A while back, Steward Team updated Open Door on the Brandow's need to step out from Open Door as their family enters a new season. This affected our community's leadership as Heidi was serving as a member of our Steward Team. At this time Steward Team has not replaced her spot on the Team and will decide whether to fill the position during the annual Steward Team transition process in late spring/early summer.

We've walked together with the Brandows for some time and are excited for the new possibilities and opportunities that lie ahead for them.

See the message below from Heidi and Clint for more info. Be in touch with Steward Team or Heidi and Clint if you have any questions!

Open Door Family,
2015-16 is a season of significant change for the Brandow family. We wanted to take a moment to share with you what we’re up to and where we’ve been.

Believing that God has invited us to trust Him in new and different ways, and knowing that He sets the lonely in families, we've embarked on the exciting journey of adding to our family through foster adoption. We are in the final stages of completing our foster parent certification; and, at some point in 2016 we'll add a teenage son to our family!

We are busy preparing our home and our hearts for him, and praying in faith that God will work the same in his heart to prepare him to be loved and cherished by his adoptive family. For us, preparation means listening and learning as much as we can about the environment and culture he's coming from, and developing around us a diverse community in which he will feel welcome and at home. We're embracing new ways of seeing the world - some confronting and some liberating. We're also letting go of some of the comfort to which we've grown accustom. We're letting go of the comfort of being a cozy family of four, and of a loved church family that looks a lot like us.

In order to make room for our teenage kids(!), and accommodate our bi-racial family, we found it necessary to seek a faith community that is racially diverse, theologically sound, and has a strong youth ministry to support our kids as they navigate a new family dynamic while dealing with the storms that naturally come with teen years.

We don't know what the years ahead hold, but we know Who holds them. We know God is good - all the time. We know He has invited us into this and He goes before, behind and alongside us every step of the way. We ask for your prayers for our family as we finalize our preparations and take the next steps. Pray that we have patience as we wait to be matched to our son. (The waiting is especially difficult when we know he is in difficult circumstances.)

We ask that you pray for all three of our children; that God would write His name on their hearts and draw them each closer to Himself daily, protecting them from the things and the people in this life that seek to harm them. Pray that we’ll find a faith community that will meet the needs of our family that is growing – and growing up.

In all of this, we're grateful for our Open Door family. We're thankful for how God used our time at Open Door to enable our obedience to follow Him in this journey - to say yes to foster adoption! We love you all and look forward to staying connected with you, to hearing your stories, celebrating with you, and seeing how God continues to use Open Door to form followers of Jesus in the East Bay and beyond. Thank you for loving Jesus and us so well.
Grace and peace,

Heidi & Clint
